Fishing is a big part of the American mindset. We catch our fish, we cook it, and we eat it. It is a way to sustain ourselves during the rest of our lives. As we’ve grown older, we have seen this attitude change into a “first strike” mentality. We’ve stopped living for the moment and have instead become so focused on the future that we don’t even bother to notice what our current surroundings are doing.
This is a trend that has been happening for years. When I was a kid, I used to think that fishing was like a religion. There were all these rituals that we needed to do to prove to the universe that we were indeed a part of it, so we would always come home with a catch. This ritual was called “the first strike”.
